Chapter 63 Trying My Best
Chapter 63 Trying My Best
Qin Yu said calmly.
Li Zhe's pupils contracted. He clearly knew Team Six and the masked point guard, "Zhou Biao." He scrutinized Qin Yu again, trying to connect the clean-cut young man before him with the cold, masked man on the court.
"So it was you..." Li Zhe's tone was complex, a mixture of shock and resentment. "Wearing a mask, were you afraid of being recognized?"
"An allergic reaction on my face," Qin Yu casually made up an excuse.
Su's mother looked at Qin Yu with more interest: "Winning the championship shows that you are quite good. Teamwork is also very important."
"Auntie is right." Qin Yu nodded.
The ensuing conversation largely consisted of casual chatter between Su's mother and Aunt Liu, with the occasional inquiry about Qin Yu and Li Zhe's studies and family situations. Qin Yu answered concisely and appropriately, while Li Zhe tried his best to showcase his excellence and family background.
Su Lingjuan would occasionally serve Qin Yu snacks and whisper a few words, behaving very intimately. Qin Yu cooperated, responding only occasionally, but most of the time he simply listened quietly, his demeanor composed, contrasting sharply with Li Zhe's deliberate behavior.
Li Zhe grew increasingly impatient, especially after Su's mother seemed to have a better impression of Qin Yu. He suddenly changed the subject: "Qin, your ball skills are so good, have you ever thought about pursuing a career as a sports specialist? The platform at No. 3 Middle School is limited after all. If needed, I might be able to talk to my dad about it. Huaxing Company sometimes sponsors some promising talents."
These words sound like a helping hand, but they are actually full of condescending charity, implying that Qin Yu needs to rely on his connections.
Qin Yu looked up and stared directly at Li Zhe. The corners of his mouth seemed to curve slightly beneath his mask, but his eyes were cold: "Thank you for your kindness. However, I will walk my own path."
His tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable firmness.
A hint of approval flashed in Su's mother's eyes. She disliked impetuous young people, and Qin Yu's calm, reserved, and dignified attitude made her think more highly of him.
Li Zhe was met with a rebuff, and his expression turned even uglier.
After they had almost finished their tea, Su's mother checked the time and stood up, saying, "I have a meeting to attend. Lingjuan, please sit with Aunt Liu and Li Zhe for a while longer. Qin, thank you for coming today."
This statement is tantamount to acknowledging Qin Yu's status as his "boyfriend," meaning that at least for the time being, Su Lingjuan will not be pressured to go on blind dates.
Su Lingjuan was overjoyed and readily agreed.
After Su's mother left, the atmosphere became even more awkward. Aunt Liu sat for a few more minutes before making an excuse and leaving with Li Zhe. Before leaving, Li Zhe gave Qin Yu a deep look, his eyes gloomy.
Only Qin Yu and Su Lingjuan remained in the private room.
"Yay! Success!" Su Lingjuan breathed a sigh of relief and clapped her hands excitedly. "Qin Yu, you were awesome! My mom's eyes changed when she looked at you! And that Li Zhe, his face almost turned green!"
Qin Yu didn't feel much joy, only utter exhaustion. This kind of situation was more tiring than playing a high-intensity basketball game.
"I've finished my business, I should go now." He stood up.
"Hey, don't rush!" Su Lingjuan pulled him back. "I haven't properly thanked you yet! How about I treat you to dinner? You can choose the place!"
"No need." Qin Yu pulled his arm away. "I'm a little tired and want to go home and rest."
Seeing his unpleasant expression, Su Lingjuan pouted and said, "Well... okay. Thank you so much this time. I'll try my best not to cause you any trouble at school in the future."
She blinked and looked at Qin Yu.
