Chapter 421 - 414: It Won’t Be Too Late to Talk After That Person Arrives
At the Grant family home, Cedric Grant finished his breakfast. He wiped his mouth with a napkin, tossed it onto the table, and stood up to leave without a word.
"Cedric, leaving so early? Are you heading to the office?" Jean Jarvis suddenly called out to him, her voice carefully neutral.
"Yes, to the office. I told you yesterday, it’s been busy lately." Cedric Grant’s expression was placid as he spoke, and then he walked out of the dining room.
Behind him, Jean Jarvis gripped her chopsticks so tightly it seemed they might snap.
’He’s obviously going to the Quinn family to clear up that "misunderstanding" for Clara, yet he can lie to my face so brazenly!’
A moment later, after hearing a car start outside, Jean Jarvis stood up and went to the door. Hiding behind it, she peeked out and watched Cedric Grant drive away.
She stepped outside and stood on the veranda, staring at the front gate. Cedric Grant was already gone.
"Cedric, since you can’t tell me a single truth, since you still disregard Chloe and are dead set on helping Clara secure her position with the Quinn family, then don’t blame me for taking matters into my own hands."
After murmuring this, Jean Jarvis picked up her phone and made a call.
...
「The Quinn Residence.」
A servant led Cedric Grant into the main hall. The moment he entered, he saw Theodore Quinn and Sienna Hale sitting formally in the living room, looking as if they had been waiting for him to explain the "misunderstanding."
"Ah, Brother Quinn, Sister-in-law Quinn, have you two been waiting long? I am so sorry." Cedric Grant said with a smile, hurrying over to them to express his apologies.
Theodore Quinn stood up, smiling as well. "Not at all, we just sat down ourselves. Grant, have a seat."
Though reluctant, Sienna Hale also rose to her feet and offered him a slight smile as a greeting.
"Mrs. Cheney, please bring some tea for Mr. Grant," Theodore Quinn added, turning to give the instruction.
Mrs. Cheney acknowledged the order and poured a cup of tea for Cedric Grant.
Cedric Grant took a sip and praised, "Mm, wonderfully fragrant and smooth, with a pleasant, lingering aftertaste. Excellent tea, truly excellent."
Theodore Quinn laughed heartily. "It is, isn’t it? Since you like it, take some with you when you leave."
After all, Cedric Grant was the man who had saved his life, so Theodore would always treat him with more warmth and generosity than anyone else.
Sienna Hale was growing anxious. Instead of discussing the important matter at hand, the two men were just making small talk.
She wanted to just come out and ask Cedric Grant directly, but she restrained herself. ’If Theodore isn’t worried, then I shouldn’t be either.’
But she was still on pins and needles.
At Theodore Quinn’s urging, she had tentatively accepted Clara, but she still felt uneasy about the situation.
When Cedric Grant had called yesterday to say it was all a misunderstanding, she had prayed with all her might. ’Please, let what Chloe Grant said be untrue. Please let Clara be Cedric Grant’s daughter!’
Finally, when their chitchat came to an end, Cedric Grant paused thoughtfully before broaching the main topic.
Sienna Hale’s head snapped toward him, ready to listen intently.
"Brother Quinn, Sister-in-law Quinn, as I said on the phone, what happened yesterday was a complete misunderstanding. That’s why I came today—to explain everything to you in person.
"The truth is, regarding Clara’s parentage..."
He had barely gotten the words out when a servant entered and announced, "Sir, Mrs. Grant is here."
Cedric Grant froze. ’Jean? What is she doing here?’
Though slightly surprised, Theodore Quinn immediately said, "Oh? Please, show her in."
A few moments later, Jean Jarvis walked in.
After exchanging pleasantries with Theodore and his wife, she sat down beside Cedric Grant.
Cedric Grant stared intently at her, frowning as he asked in a low voice, "What are you doing here?"
Just as Jean Jarvis was about to respond, Theodore Quinn spoke up. "Grant, you were just about to tell us about Clara’s parentage. Please, continue."
Cedric Grant was about to speak, but Jean Jarvis cut in first. "Brother Quinn, Sister-in-law Quinn, there’s no need to rush. Someone else will be arriving shortly. It won’t be too late to discuss Clara’s parentage after they get here."
