Chapter 49 The Request from the Aloof School Beauty Senior
"Lorne, that candy of yours is definitely not authentic! You must have put something unclean in it!"
Outside the wooden element tower, the sun shines brightly, and lush green trees abound. A gentle breeze blows, creating a beautiful scene.
Viola glared at Lorne, sharpening her fangs, determined to get justice for her recent humiliation.
The thought of herself, such a beautiful girl, showing such an embarrassing side in front of so many people made her so ashamed that she wished she could dig a three-bedroom apartment in the ground with her toes and live there. Even now, when she walks on the street, she feels that her classmates are looking at her strangely.
"That's not candy, it's a pill."
Lorne had explained it countless times, but no matter how many times he explained, Viola would only treat it as a candy called "elixir"... Oh well, let it be.
"By the way, what is the Department of Law Enforcement that Professor Sylvie mentioned earlier?" He suddenly remembered a term the professor had just mentioned.
"Hmph, you're still not as good as me. You don't even know this," Viola said with a touch of pride, though she wasn't sure what she was so proud of, and continued to explain:
"The Dawn Empire is so vast, with so many mages. We can't just let everyone cast spells at will, can we? What if a high-ranking mage is in a bad mood and throws a fireball in the middle of the city? What about ordinary people? Or what if a fallen mage or underground society is secretly plotting some evil activity? There has to be someone to keep them in check."
"So the Empire established the 'Magical Order Enforcement Department,' also known as the Law Enforcement Department. It sounds official, but in reality, its members are all at least mid-level mages, all practical experts, and incredibly fierce!"
She lowered her voice and added:
"The Enforcement Department has great power, extending across the empire and not subject to local jurisdiction. If they determine that a mage has violated the Imperial Magic Convention, they can arrest him directly. Arrested mages are imprisoned in the 'Silent Prison,' a place that is said to suppress magic power so much that you can't even conjure a water ball inside. Every year, graduates from the empire's major magic academies are recruited into the Enforcement Department, making the competition extremely fierce; it's not easy for ordinary people to get in."
Lorne nodded thoughtfully.
It sounds like the Enforcement Department is the magical police of the Dawn Empire, specializing in dealing with those who don't follow the rules.
He recalled the "autonomous association" behind Chrysace, and the "president" and "mentor" they mentioned. These people were probably secretly up to no good and didn't want to be targeted by the Department of Law Enforcement.
As I was pondering this, a light, melodious voice suddenly came from not far away:
"Junior Lorne, are you free right now?"
Looking up, I saw a figure in a white dress standing quietly under a tree. Her long, icy blue hair reached her waist, and her face was like a white lotus blooming on a snow-capped mountain, pure and ethereal. Her eyes and brows were indifferent, like the unmelted snow on the mountaintop.
She had been standing there for a while, her icy demeanor causing the students passing by to instinctively avoid her, yet they couldn't help but glance at her. No matter the gender, it was hard to ignore the presence of such an icy figure.
"Senior Cecilia?" Lorne greeted her with great surprise.
He only met this senior once, on the day of registration, when she gave him the college badge, and he never saw her again.
"Junior Viola, could you give Junior Lorne and me some personal space?"
The aloof senior student's eyes flickered as she looked at Viola.
???
Viola stared wide-eyed, her gaze sweeping over the two of them in disbelief.
When did you two start dating?
After scanning the area several times, she gave Lorne a "dude, you're awesome" gesture and made a quick getaway.
Lorne looked helplessly at the aloof senior: "What do you need me for, senior?"
He had no connection with Cecilia, and none of the people he knew were close to her. Moreover, he had seen aloof people before and knew that someone like Cecilia, who kept people at arm's length, lived in a world where she didn't need anyone else. There must be a reason why someone like that came to him.
Cecilia didn't beat around the bush:
"You're going to Professor Sylvie's greenhouse in a couple of days, could you take me with you?"
Lorne was somewhat surprised that the news had spread so quickly. Class had just ended, and he hadn't even had time to process it himself, yet this senior had already received the news? He remembered that she wasn't a student of the Wood Academy.
"How did you know, senior?" he asked somewhat warily.
"I know some classmates inside the Wood Elemental Tower." Senior Cecilia didn't elaborate, clearly not wanting to waste any more time on this matter.
"But I have a reason why I have to go in, and I hope you can help me."
Lorne did not refuse, but just frowned as he looked at her.
They stood on the outer perimeter of the wooden elemental tower, with students from various grades passing by from time to time. When they saw them, they couldn't help but cast strange glances at them, mainly because they were surprised that this freshman had attracted Cecilia's attention.
Cecilia lowered her eyes, a complex expression flickering in her icy, lake-like eyes—a mixture of reluctance and pleading.
"I have an older brother who is a few years older than me. He has amazing magical talent, but he was secretly cursed by a fallen mage when he was very young, which damaged his foundation. The magical energy circuit in his body was broken. From childhood to adulthood, he has to suffer the pain of the curse backlash every month. When the pain comes, it feels like his whole body is on fire, and he is unable to step onto the path of magic."
She spoke softly, her tone even, as if she had told the story many times before, but there was still a barely perceptible tremor in her voice:
"After my research in the academy library, I found a fifth-tier magic potion called 'Star Vein Coagulation Elixir' that can repair broken magic circuits. However, its main ingredient is a plant called 'Silver Vein Snow Velvet,' which has been extinct in the outside world for decades."
"The only place that still exists is Professor Sylvie's greenhouse."
She lowered her eyes slightly: "Last year, the professor successfully re-cultivated this precious magical plant."
Lorne understood: "You want Silvervein Snowflakes?"
"It's not 'want'!"
Cecilia quickly shook her head:
"Once Silver Vein Snowflake leaves the greenhouse environment, its medicinal properties will be completely lost within half a magic hour, making it impossible to bring it out. Therefore, I must go in and use the materials on-site in the greenhouse to concoct the potion. I only need to use Silver Vein Snowflake in the greenhouse and not take the plant itself with me."
"Professor Sylvie has only given you a permanent key. You are the only one in the entire academy who can freely enter and exit the greenhouse as many times as you want. But I don't need you to sneak me in. That would be harming you. I only hope that on the day you enter the greenhouse, you can introduce me to Professor Sylvie in person so that I can explain the situation to her and ask her to allow me to use a small section of Silver Vein Edelweiss branch in the greenhouse. As long as the main root is not damaged, the plant will not be harmed."
Lorne pondered for a moment, realizing that this senior student ultimately wanted to use his favor.
He had indeed heard that the entrance requirements for Sylvie's Greenhouse were very high, and only the top students in Potions were eligible to enter. However, since Senior Cecilia was a student of the Thunder Academy and not the Wood Academy, she obviously did not have good talent in Potions and was therefore not qualified to enter the Greenhouse.
But he was still somewhat puzzled: "Isn't your family a prestigious magical family? Wouldn't it be easier for you to ask Professor Sylvie directly and openly than to come to me?"
