Chapter 67 Black Magic is Usable
Chapter 67 Black Magic is Usable
"you!"
Thor's expression froze for a moment.
He had never seen anyone catch Thor's hammer so effortlessly.
It wasn't about dodging or blocking, but rather using some kind of force he couldn't comprehend to fix it in mid-air.
Thor's hammer hummed in his crimson energy hand. Thor reached out to try and recall it, and the hammer trembled violently, but only slightly.
"That's impossible."
Thor's voice lowered, his anger subsiding and replaced by wariness.
Wanda narrowed her eyes, tightened her grip, and Thor's hammer, held in her hand by chaotic magic, trembled even more violently.
"Wanda, that's enough."
Shendu raised his hand, gesturing for Wanda to stop, then looked at Thor and said, "Did you come here to protect Earth, or to prove yourself right?"
Thor recalled his hammer and held it in his hand, the arc of electricity still lingering on his arm, as he looked at the three people in front of him with a wary expression.
"The two are not contradictory," Thor said coldly.
The Holy Lord smiled and shook his head: "Your father must have taught you that there is only a very thin line between a sense of justice and self-righteousness."
Wang strode between the two, his scepter already put away, his hands slightly outstretched.
"Listen to me, Saul."
The king's voice returned to calm: "You are the heir to the throne of Asgard, and you want to protect this planet. My duty is also to protect this place. We are not enemies."
Thor narrowed his eyes, staring at him, and repeated his previous question: "So why are you using dark magic?"
"Because we've encountered something you can't understand," Wang explained patiently. "You don't understand."
Thor sneered, "You don't even know what I've been through to draw such a conclusion."
"I really don't know."
Wang admitted, "But I know that some of the things that happened during the time you were away from Earth were things that even Odin had never seen."
"Where is Fury?" Thor asked suddenly after a moment of silence. "If you're unwilling to tell me, someone else will."
Wang did not answer immediately, but sighed and said, "Dead."
Thor was stunned; he hadn't expected such an answer: "What did you say?"
"Fury is dead," Wang repeated. "He passed away while you were away."
Thor stared into the king's eyes, his tone becoming urgent: "How did he die?"
The Holy Lord looked at the King, who had suddenly fallen silent, with a smile on his face. He also wanted to know how the King would answer.
He made a mistake.
Wang concluded, "A fatal mistake. He was influenced by some force and did something that endangered the safety of the Earth. Before he realized it, it was too late to undo it."
Thor frowned. "What power?"
"You don't need to know," the Holy Lord suddenly said calmly.
Thor abruptly turned to look at him: "I don't need to know?"
"Frey is dead."
The Holy Lord waved his hand: "The cause of death has nothing to do with you, nothing to do with Asgard, and nothing to do with the problem you want to solve now."
The Holy Lord changed the subject, narrowing his eyes: "Besides, he was human, and he died because of human issues. You are the prince of Asgard, and you don't need to question every single mortal who has died."
"You!" Thor was about to attack again.
"Sol".
Wang stepped forward and interrupted him: "He's right, Fury's matter is over, and now we have bigger problems to face."
"A bigger problem?"
Thor couldn't help but laugh out loud, exasperated: "Someone I know died, and you tell me it's over, and then you expect me to discuss dark magic with you?"
Thor finished speaking and laughed even louder: "Is this how Earthlings deal with problems? Burying people in the ground, then building a beautiful house on top of them, pretending there's nothing underground?"
No one answered.
Thor fixed his gaze on Mo: "What do you think? You're currently benefiting from dark magic; do you really think you can control this power?"
"I can," Mordo said confidently. "You can too."
Thor was speechless at Mordo's words. He opened his mouth, feeling like he was talking to a brick wall.
What is the essence of dark magic?
Mordo took a step forward and repeated the Holy Lord's words: "It is power, nothing more. Those who fear it have given it a name: darkness, just as the ancients called lightning divine punishment."
Mordo looked at the hammer in Thor's hand: "You wield Mjolnir, you should understand better than anyone that power itself has no good or evil, only the person wielding it does."
Thor remained silent for a long time, then slowly said, "You sound like Loki."
"Take me to Kamar-Taj," Thor continued.
Wang didn't react immediately: "What did you say?"
"I said take me to Kamar-Taj."
Thor repeated, "I need to be there to verify your views on dark magic."
The king glanced at the Holy Lord, who looked on with an amused expression, then looked at Thor and finally nodded slowly.
"Okay, but I need you to put some things down first."
"Put down what?" Thor gripped Mjolnir tightly.
"It's not a hammer."
Wang shook his head: "It's your prejudice. Kamar-Taj is not a battlefield. If you step into it with hostility, I will not let you in."
Thor paused for a moment and then nodded. "Alright, lead the way."
The king raised his hand and drew a golden portal in the air, on the other side of which was the courtyard of Kamar-Taj.
Thor stepped through the portal, followed closely by Shendu, with Wanda entering last. As the portal closed, Wang glanced at the empty street behind him before following him in.
Kamar-Taj's courtyard was much quieter than Thor remembered. In the past, apprentices would practice here, the sounds of wooden swords clashing and spells chanting filling the air. But now, only a few people sat quietly in a corner.
"There are fewer people," Saul said.
"Many people have left." Wang didn't explain further, leading them through the corridor and into a spacious library.
"What do you want to verify?" Wang asked, turning around.
Thor did not answer immediately. He paced around the room, his gaze sweeping over the ancient books before finally settling on Mordo.
"You say you can control dark magic, prove it to me."
Modu chuckled softly and raised his hands.
Black energy surged from his palm, coiling and taking shape at his fingertips.
The energy did not spread violently as Thor had expected. Instead, it quietly condensed into a thin thread, which slowly moved under Mordo's control, eventually transforming into the shape of a butterfly and landing on the back of his hand.
Thor stared at the butterfly for a long time.
"A fancy trick," Thor commented, though his tone was less firm.
"A trick?" Mordo gently squeezed, and the butterfly vanished. "And what about this?"
Mordo pushed his hands outwards, and dark energy instantly spread outwards, forming a semi-transparent barrier in the center of the room.
"My king, attack me!" Mordo said to the king beside him.
Wang took an ancient book from the bookshelf and casually threw it at the barrier. The book bounced off the barrier the moment it made contact.
"defense."
Mordo withdrew his energy: "Dark magic isn't just about destruction; it can also protect. The problem is never the power itself, but what you use it for."
