Chapter 2685 - 896: Hey, Didn’t Expect This, Dog Murphy! I, Lord of Darkness, Take Revenge Before Dawn [10/10]
(An extra Chapter for "Whale and Azure Skies" brother [5/5])
Huggesen finally met this group of Ratmen who had traveled from afar.
Not just because they were the "reinforcements" that his crafty collaborator Helsun found for him, but also because, having been through the Battle of Blackflame Mountain Pass, Huggesen was very curious about how these Ratmen got involved with the mysterious Lord of Darkness.
These are completely unrelated forces!
He knew that the Ratmen were biological weapons created by the Dusk Faction, classified under the "Doomsday Camp".
He also knew that the enigmatic Lord of Darkness, almost unknown to anyone, was sealed within Heather Hoffman, the Second Lord of the Blood Covenant Knights Group, and was this supernatural force released only at the very end of the Blackflame Mountain Pass war.
But that unlucky soul hadn’t even managed to escape his "earthly seal" before being banished into the chaotic Star Realm by Murphy’s Astral Fissure along with the divine spirit.
Though Huggesen learned from the Blood Scar Clan that an unknown force plotted against the Dusk Faction during the Brass Fortress fall, causing them to completely lose control over the Ratmen, the merger of these two entities in such a short time was beyond his expectations.
It’s just like following bees for nectar and flies to find toilets, kindred spirits, brother!
One could say, Huggesen’s mild reception of these Ratmen claiming allegiance to the Lord of Darkness was more out of a sense of curiosity.
He really wanted to know what exactly had happened.
The meeting scene didn’t disappoint Huggesen, although the three Ratmen standing before him still had standard rodent postures, hunched and furtive, swinging their bare tails like giant walking rats without any dignity.
Yet they had learned from their previous "tattered" appearance to wear bizarre black robes to conceal their faces, creating a mysterious aura, but the robes on these three guys clearly came from the same victim,
all with terrible tear marks...
Well, being short has its advantages, at least it saves fabric when making clothes.
Huggesen felt his observation was a bit "offensive" to the three strange beings, and he foresaw that voicing it might cause unnecessary discord, thus the Grand Marshal focused more on the essence of the three Ratmen themselves.
This glimpse made him furrow his brow more tightly.
These were three peculiar "puppets".
Their aura was from the same origin, clearly unlike what a Ratman should have, seeming more like some strange yet higher reality force crammed some power into these three Ratmen’s shells.
Even though they might believe they still possessed self-awareness and received empowerment from the "Divine Spirit", the fact was, their existence was already in the hands of a higher power.
Seeing part to infer the whole, this self-introduced Lord of Darkness was definitely no small fry.
"Speak,"
After realizing these Ratmen only served as the Lord of Darkness’s mouthpieces, Huggesen lost interest in observing them. Sitting on the throne that once belonged to the King of Bone Biting, he leaned on the Split Claw Warhammer and asked:
"Why have you come?"
"To bring you victory, mighty Military Governor...squeak squeak."
The response with a Ratmen’s characteristic lisp was sharp and shrill, much like the sound of a rodent gnawing on wood, a sound that was definitely not pleasant to hear.
The leading Ratman had adorned his black robe with several strange skulls, presumably some kind of magic artifact infused with darkness, primitively made but remarkably skillful in its energy use.
He lifted his head, and beneath the dark robe that concealed his face, all that could be seen was a wavering blackness.
Honestly, that posture was a bit creepy.
Yet it certainly didn’t scare Huggesen, as he was the chosen of the Master of Hunting, representing the dignity of an Evil God.
Hearing the Ratman’s response, Huggesen sneered and said coldly:
"If you continue wasting time with roundabout answers, I’ll throw you out! So, I ask again, why have you come?"
"For Murphy!"
The Ratman didn’t pretend anymore, replying with a voice laced with a peculiar trembling:
"My master resents the vampire Murphy who shamelessly ambushed the great darkness while he was weak. After we obtained our bewildering freedom, we met my master’s emissary, who showed us the path to darkness.
The ’Dark Servant’ Clan was thus formed, and under my master’s command, we’ve come here to partake in the Black Disaster.
We are mightier than those foolish gnolls under your command, their laughable digging would be overheard by those damned dwarves, but not us.
The fortress you are attacking is also a critical site Murphy, that dog, must protect, hence assisting you in breaching it will surely lure Murphy out, and my master is eager to have a discussion with that shameless vampire about the last ambush...squeak squeak, Transylvania, bad thing!
Bad things need a proper smashing!"
"Hmm..."
This answer was reasonably straightforward, and after pondering a moment, Huggesen found the proposal worth considering, so he asked:
"How many of you does this Dark Servant Clan have?"
"More than plentiful, as numerous as the starlight in the dark river of the skies!"
"Speak properly! Otherwise, shut up!"
