Chapter 14 The World Tree?
Chapter 14 The World Tree?
Despite its tattered appearance, Devimon's wings were surprisingly fast when it flew. Fang Xiu flew upwards towards the mountaintop.
Unexpectedly, there were no traps or Digimon on the mountaintop, only ruins.
The ruins are filled with ancient blue bricks and tiles, and grass has grown in the gaps between the bricks, making it hard to imagine how many years have passed.
Fang Xiu walked to the wall and tapped the bricks that had stood for so many years. Surprisingly, they still maintained a fairly good strength. He wondered what material they were made of, or perhaps it was simply because this was a data space, so the effects of time were minimal.
After passing through the long corridor, Fang Xiu arrived at what was probably the center of the ruins, where a mechanical device was placed, clearly intended for people to touch.
To touch or not to touch?
The question lingered in Fang Xiu's mind for less than three seconds before his claws were already on the mechanical device.
Why be afraid of him? He doesn't believe there's an ultimate form hiding inside that can kill him.
When Fang Xiu's claws pressed against the digital mechanical device, a string of data that had been stored for a long time flowed into his mind, transforming into images and information. As a result, Fang Xiu's eyes gradually changed, and he began to understand everything.
In short, this is a suicide note that tells the story of a former Digimon's struggles and the origins of this island.
The Digimon on this island did not form naturally, but were an experimental ground. Among the Digimon that left behind their last letters, it was mentioned that their Digital World's Yggdrasil mainframe collapsed due to an unexpected disaster.
Originally, when Digimon died, some of their original data would enter the Starting Village, turn into Digi-Eggs, and enter a new cycle of reincarnation, thus spiraling upwards continuously. However, due to the collapse of their world's World Tree, not only did they not rise, their world directly collapsed.
Without any new Digimon, the world is in a dead end. To make matters worse, their world is also being targeted by another dark digital world dominated by dark forces, plunging them into war.
This island is the fragment of the Digital World that was on the verge of death, a place ravaged by a great battle that brought together many Ultimate-level beings. This island was caught in the crossfire and banished.
The Digimon that left this last letter was named Molemon, a Perfect-level Digimon. He was a member of the Steel Empire in the Digital World and could be considered a Digital Scientist. This island was Molemon's testing ground, but before he succeeded, Molemon was exiled along with the island, and he was left with indelible scars, with his Digicore pierced through.
"No wonder those Digimon were so strange, now I understand..."
After sorting through the data, Fang Xiu finally understood why those Digimon, despite being at the Champion level, felt so strange—they were products of molecular beast modification.
Molecular Beast attempted to create Digimon using data. He succeeded and failed. He succeeded because he did create Digimon, and in considerable numbers. He also failed because the Digimon he created were completely devoid of reason.
The severely damaged molecular beast drifted into the void along with the island until Fang Xiu arrived.
The digital core was severely damaged, and the molecular beast eventually dissipated into data, leaving only some relics behind.
Following the words left by the molecular beast, Fang Xiu activated the ruins again and entered the space built inside the mountain.
"Let me see what's inside. Digital alloy? Experimental data? Aha! Found it!"
Fang Xiu had mostly left behind miscellaneous items, which he simply skipped over. After walking through the last corridor, at the end, Fang Xiu saw what he was looking for, which was also the most precious item mentioned in the molecular beast's last words.
Inside the transparent glass dome, a small tree, half plant and half machine, floats, looking rather withered.
This is the root of the island's existence and the greatest achievement of the Molecular Beast—the World Tree Seedling, Pseudo-Mechanical Type.
When Yggdrasil collapsed, some of the missing parts were collected by various forces in the Digital World, including the Steel Empire where Molecularmon resided. The half-mechanical, half-plant sapling in front of us is the final result of its cultivation.
Of course, this is far from being a true World Tree host. It can only be described as a fake with a few traces of the real World Tree's abilities, and its appearance is also very different from the real World Tree host. However, for Fang Xiu, those few traces of abilities are enough.
World Tree Seedling - Pseudo has the ability to travel through space. The reason why Molecular Beast did not use this power was because its Digicore had been destroyed, making it impossible to activate this power.
After searching around and finding nothing of use, Fang Xiu extended his claw and placed it on the mechanical part of the World Tree Sapling - Pseudo, and began transmitting data.
With four cores, Fang Xiu's data volume was even greater than that of a typical fully-formed being. Even so, he was almost drained dry by this unassuming sapling. After absorbing a large amount of different data, the originally withered sapling suddenly became energetic.
"Excellent, start!"
Almost completely drained, Fang Xiu, who had degenerated from Devimon into Little Devimon, chose to activate his power without hesitation.
He'd rather stay in any digital world than stay on this experimental island.
After a brief period of restraint, a dazzling burst erupted. The brilliant light emanating from the World Tree Sapling - Pseudo-core engulfed Fang Xiu, then the entire laboratory, and then the light continued to spread until it enveloped the entire island.
Like a brilliant star bursting forth with its own brilliance, once the brilliance fades, there are no islands left in the void; they have all vanished without a trace.
