In the blink of an eye, Patrick pulled out a tortoise shell and pointed it at the six-armed serpent demon.
An unparalleled magical shockwave emanated from the tortoise shell, striking the six-armed serpent demon squarely.
That was none other than the ninth-circle arcane spell, "Mordoncan Disintegrate"!
This powerful spell is the ultimate version of "Dispel Magic," capable of dissolving all magical effects and magical items within its area of effect. All spells and spell-like effects that are in use will cease to function under the influence of "Mordoncan Dissolve," just as if they were dispelled by "Dispel Magic." This spell is a trump card in wizard duels, often rendering the opponent useless upon its use. Even "Anti-Magic Fields" and artifacts have a chance of being destroyed by it.
However, the next second, Patrick's eyes widened.
He saw the enormous serpent's body crash straight into the serpent priest.
With a flash of silver-blue sword light, the snake-man's head rolled to the ground.
But none of these things could compare to the scene that made him lose his composure:
The dark aura of "Evil Aura" still covered the six-armed serpent demon's body, protecting her and all her equipment and weapons, showing no signs of being eliminated by "Duncan's Disintegration Technique"!
Patrick, who was usually impassive, couldn't help but change his expression: "How is this possible!?"
This is the latest perk the Six-Armed Serpent Demon acquired when it recovered its life level: "Supernatural Ability Conversion".
The purpose of this specialty is to transform a type of magical ability into a supernatural ability.
Supernatural abilities and spell-like abilities are similar in effect, both being suppressed by anti-magic fields. However, there are two differences: first, magic resistance is ineffective against supernatural abilities; second, the "dispel magic" magic dispelling effects are also ineffective against supernatural abilities.
The six-armed serpent demon immediately chose to transform its spell-like ability "Evil Aura" into a supernatural power, turning "Evil Aura" into its own eternal protective armor.
However, to destroy the magical equipment possessed by a target, "Mordonk's Disintegration" must overwhelm the target's will.
"Evil Aura" greatly enhances her various magical immunity abilities, which in turn further protects her equipment. In addition, the Mortal Hunter's class ability "Mortal Repulsion" allows her to utilize her keen senses to grant immunity to magical or spell-like abilities of mortal creatures.
In this way, it would be almost impossible for ordinary creatures to have any magic that could work on her.
The six-armed snake demon beheaded the snake-man priest with a single sword strike, then stretched out his six sword-wielding arms and turned to face Patrick.
She asked, "Aren't you planning to run away?"
The moment their eyes met, Patrick smiled.
"Interesting."
He said calmly, gently rolling up his sleeves, the recurve knife in his hand flashing with a scarlet light, "Killing and being killed... I haven't tasted the thrill of killing under equal conditions for a long time."
Author's Note: I took leave the day before yesterday, and unexpectedly, I had something to do yesterday as well, so I'm updating it all today to make up for the word count.
Chapter 82 So-called Peace
The boat rocked violently, sometimes lurching forward and backward, sometimes swaying from side to side.
The fighting outside seems to be intensifying.
In the pitch-black lower deck, the swords gleamed with a chilling light.
The six-armed snake demon and "Red Assassin" Patrick faced off, both firmly planted on the floor like nails.
The magical darkness of "Evil Aura" enveloped the massive six-armed serpentine body like smoke and mist, making her eyes appear as two blazing emerald green flames.
Patrick, on the other hand, looked completely relaxed and at ease, as if he didn't care about the fight at all.
Large amounts of seawater cascaded down from above the demon and the human as the ship rocked.
Around and above them floated large and small "Dragon Madness Lock" cubes.
Each of them was surrounded by a repulsive force field emanating a faint purple glow. Most were bound by chains, while others had broken free and were slowly rolling around in the air.
At this moment, standing in the cabin, there is a disorienting conflict between physical sensations and visual perception.
As the six-armed serpent demon struggled against the ship's swaying, she observed that the cubes of varying sizes between her and Patrick moved independently, completely unaffected by the turbulence. As the ship tilted to the left, some of them rolled to the right, while others continued to roll to the left as the ship tilted to the right.
Patrick chuckled.
“When I met you at the casino, I felt like we were kindred spirits. At that moment, I felt a sense of connection, like I had found a soulmate. And it turned out to be true.”
"I don't think so."
"Stop denying it, Ivy Beatrice."
Patrick took the emerald green lace bow ring from his inner jacket pocket, held it under his nose, and took a deep breath.
"I guess if I were the one who won that bet, you would kill me, wouldn't you?"
She did not deny it.
She said calmly, "I agreed to gamble with you to give you a chance to live."
—Since you believe that the stakes you've chosen can be used for gambling, then I can also believe that the stakes I've chosen can be used for gambling.
—You said the stake you were betting on was my body; I didn't say it, but the stake I was betting on was your life.
—Your gambling logic is that if you win, you can enjoy my body; my gambling logic is that if you lose, you can live, but if you win, you will die.
Don't give me any of that bullshit about "accepting the consequences of a bet."
I only follow my own rules.
Patrick laughed heartily.
“That’s it,” he said. “You and I, we are the same kind.”
"We all just follow the rules we set for ourselves, playing the game of life. This world is just a giant, foolish playground, where everything is just a fleeting visitor. We do whatever we want, based solely on our likes and dislikes, caring about nothing else, and there are no rules or regulations that can limit or stop us."
"I saw right through you."
"So what?" The six-armed serpent demon tilted his head curiously. "Shall we make peace? You can leave."
"Unfortunately, my boss wouldn't let me off the hook, nor would he let you off the hook. He's not exactly a good-natured person."
Patrick put the emerald green lace bow ring back into his pocket.
“So, I’ll give you one last piece of advice, Ivy Beat,” he said, “help me activate the Dragon Frenzy Lock, and we can achieve a win-win situation. My boss will get what he wants. Zaire has you on his wanted list in Samarach, and you are a threat. If your boss takes care of him, it will also benefit you.”
"Then we'll become partners and have fun together in this world. I guarantee we'll find lots and lots of interesting things to do."
However, her response was to raise her sword.
“Why?” Patrick asked curiously.
"We are the same kind of people, didn't you say that? Guess what."
Patrick slowly stopped smiling.
“Because you also want those souls, and even theirs,” he pointed to Lana and the mantis’s corpses, then paused, “...and mine?”
"bingo."
“You owe me a favor, remember? I helped you lure out Gululos.”
“So I said,” she reiterated, “you can go.”
"I knew things would turn out this way."
Patrick sighed, "If I were you, I would have done the same. But I just can't help asking one more question, after all, true friends are hard to find—"
Before he could finish his last word, a figure flashed, and a blood-red blade instantly slashed at her neck!
The continuous clanging of metal echoed in the lower deck.
The six-armed serpent demon raised its hand to block the attack with its Shadow Strike Sword, and then, wielding a greatsword in each of its six arms, it unleashed a storm of slashes at Patrick.
She unleashed four sword strikes with her main hand and two sword strikes each with her five secondary hands, completing fourteen sword strikes in the blink of an eye.
To her surprise, Patrick managed to block all of them with a combination of deflections and parries using his recurve blade.
He suddenly retreated with lightning speed, leaping and dodging in a strange manner, his movements somewhat similar to those of Boktura when he transformed into the demonic mandrill. By the time he regained his footing, he was already out of the six-armed serpent demon's attack range.
The emerald green lace bow ring turned into several pieces of fabric, fluttering and falling in front of the six-armed serpent demon.
Patrick looked down at himself.
His shirt was cut diagonally with two long sword marks, revealing his well-defined abdominal muscles and scutes.
"You ruined my coat."
He said with a hint of regret.
The six-armed serpent demon remained silent.
With a grim expression, she pressed the back of her right hand, which was gripping the sword, against the right side of her neck. The dark blue demonic blood not only flowed down her neck, across her chest and abdomen, but also down her arm to her elbow, dripping onto the ground.
Patrick's first strike was incredibly swift, piercing through her sword path and leaving a shallow cut on her neck.
Patrick stared intently at the six-armed serpent demon, his gaze never leaving her for a second, while simultaneously removing a pair of gloves from his wrists. The gloves were light and thin, and surprisingly ivory in color.
He casually stuffed them back into his pocket.
He noticed her gaze.
"Ah, you're interested in them?" he said. "Truestrike Gauntlets. Activating them gives you a preemptive strike effect, guaranteeing a hit. Unfortunately, they can only be activated once a day, so they're useless now."
The six-armed serpent demon lowered its arms, its body trembling slightly.
Her "rapid medical treatment" ability worked. In no time, the bleeding stopped on its own, and the neck wound had completely healed without leaving a trace.
However, the emptiness and weakness inside her body lingered, making her feel weak all over and almost unable to stand up and lift her sword.
"Oh, perhaps you feel a little dizzy now? That's because of my scarlet kiss."
As Patrick spoke, he twirled his recurve knife a few times, and a red light suddenly appeared in front of him.
"I found this recurve blade in ruins north of the ocean. I call it Crimson Kiss; it's a legendary weapon forged by the Dawn Titans, the Soul Drinker's Crimson Blade. Once kissed by it, besides the physical pain, you'll also be affected by an energy drain spell. You feel dizzy, probably because your life level has dropped by more than one level."
"What makes humans stronger than all sorts of monsters is not their greater strength or more magic, but their skillful use of tools. Am I right?"
The six-armed serpent demon nodded. "You're right."
She wholeheartedly agreed with Patrick's point of view.
Then she took out a bronze dragon scale from her dimensional bag and activated it. A high-pitched dragon roar immediately reverberated throughout the dark lower deck.
Patrick's pupils dilated.
—The magic attached to these dragon scales is none other than the priest's seventh-tier divine spell "Advanced Restoration"!
Activating the dragon scales is just a matter of a snap of the fingers; there's no time to stop it now.
Patrick's face fell as he watched the dragon scales in her hand turn to dust.
Before the echo of the dragon's roar had faded, the six-armed serpent demon on the other side had regained its strength, and all the life levels weakened by the Soul Drinker's Crimson Blade had been fully restored.
She looked at him with ill intent, her emerald green vertical pupils filled with provocation and mockery.
She looted all the secret magical resources of the Otukan family, the dragon priests. This bronze dragon scale inscribed with "Advanced Restoration" was one of them.
That's the priest's family's safe haven. It may not have much else, but it's overflowing with things to protect your life!
Without a word, Patrick turned and left, not even in the mood to say goodbye.
—Ivy Beatrice possesses the ability to resist "Dunkon's Disintegration Spell," but her reserves of magical items are unfathomable, making it impossible to continue the fight.
He sighed inwardly, feeling distressed.
—I should probably think about how to fool my boss; it's not the first time, after all…
The six-armed serpent demon was also wary of Patrick's endless stream of magical items and attack methods, and could only watch the "Red Assassin" leave.
So-called peace is when neither side can defeat the other. Continuing to fight would not only be fruitless but would also waste their own strength, so neither side would have the will to continue fighting.
For a moment, a strange silence fell over the lower deck.
Chapter 83 Treasure Hunt at Sea
Report on the Evil Dragon Invasion Incident
Speaker: Acting Port Master Berlik-Lord
basic situation:
Praise the Bronze Dragon! Based on clues from the massacre at the Lower City Warehouse, the massacre at the Dragonhorn Tavern on the eighth floor of the Lower City, the attack on the Redwood Temple on the seventh floor of the Lower City, and the presence of high-ranking demons, the newly appointed Bellyscale Priest Losx-Otukan and El-Valard, the captain of the city's garrison, take action and uncover a major conspiracy brewing by a deeply hidden demon worship organization during the preparations for the pilgrimage.
This demon cult was established by Boktura, the port chief of Botura City, and is the worldly henchman of the Demon Lord (whose name has been erased). It has long been engaged in intelligence gathering, infiltration, and sabotage. This conspiracy is orchestrated by the organization in collaboration with a two-headed evil dragon entrenched across the sea to disrupt the tripartite meeting between the City of Flame and its neighboring states.
Praise be to the Bronze Dragon! After discovering the organization's major conspiracy, Losx-Otukan decisively notified the Priest Elders and, under the guise of a "pilgrimage," mobilized the Lower City Guard to launch a swift attack. They successfully destroyed the demon-worshipping organization, killing nearly a hundred demon cultists, including Boktura, and engaged in a fierce battle with the two-headed dragon, pinning the enemy down at Fire Harbor and buying precious time for reinforcements. With the combined efforts of Gilejin of Enser and Zaire of Samarach, the great Bronze Dragon decisively defeated the enemy. They seized one of the dragon's horns and several dragon scales. The two-headed dragon lost one head and plunged into the sea, eventually fleeing northwards.
This battle:
The Belly Scale Priest Losques-Otukan died in the line of duty.
El-Valard, the platoon leader of the city garrison, was killed in action.
