Chapter 62 Reconciliation
Kiana's words broke the suffocating silence and acted like a key, unlocking the invisible shackles on Bronya's body.
The burning anger and betrayal in the white-haired girl's eyes pierced Bronya's heart like needles, causing her more pain than the Titans' cannon fire.
She pressed her lips together, her gray eyes churning with complex emotions—guilt, struggle, and pain—which ultimately coalesced into a resolute determination.
She maneuvered the heavily armed bunny to land slowly on the ground, its metal feet making a dull thud.
Bronya raised her head, her expression no longer one of near-cold calm, but one of heavy honesty as she looked directly at Kiana: "Kiana—I'm sorry." Her voice was soft, yet it pierced clearly through the wind amidst the ruins. "Bronya—"
"She is indeed Cocolia's adopted daughter, ordered to monitor Raiden Mei."
Kiana's fist clenched instantly, her knuckles turning white. Just as she thought! She felt like a complete fool.
"But," Bronya's voice suddenly rose, carrying an undeniable resolve.
"Bronya's judgment is—Cocolia's mother's actions are wrong! She has been blinded by her thirst for power and her obsession with a 'new world.' Sacrificing innocent people and using her daughter—this is absolutely not the future Bronya wants to protect!"
She maneuvered the Heavy Bunny forward, its massive mechanical arm pointing towards the tightly closed alloy door deep within the base, the muzzle of the cannon glowing faintly with the light of stored energy.
"So, Bronya has chosen to stand here with you." Her gaze swept over Kiana, Chen Feng, and then over Piggy Hero and Gaia.
"Bronya must stop her! For Seele, for everyone at the orphanage—and to prove Bronya's own choice!"
Kiana was stunned.
Seeing the immense determination bursting forth from Bronya's small frame, and hearing her call out "Seele" and "orphanage," Kiana's anger was instantly extinguished, replaced by an indescribable bitterness and—a trace of understanding.
She thought of Mei, and the bond between them. Bronya, it seemed, also had something she wanted to protect with all her might.
"Hmph!" Kiana turned her face away, but her clenched fist loosened. "Don't think I'll forgive you just because you say a few nice words! We'll settle the score after we beat that wicked woman to a pulp!"
Although her tone was still awkward, most of the hostility had dissipated. Bronya's lips twitched upwards very slightly in response.
"Haha, that's more like it! It's normal for friends to bicker and joke around, the important thing is that we're all in the same boat!" Piggy Hero, hands on his hips, energetically smoothed things over. "Is that bad guy named Cocolia inside? Let's charge in!"
Chen Feng stood by with his arms crossed, watching with a playful smile on his face.
Bronya's betrayal was within his expectations, or rather, it was precisely the result he wanted to achieve by revealing his identity. Seeing the two reach a preliminary reconciliation, he nodded in satisfaction.
"Since we share the same goal, there's nothing to hesitate about." Chen Feng walked to the front of the group, his gaze falling on the heavy alloy door.
"Duck," he habitually used the nickname he used for the Great Guardian in Belloborg, causing Bronya to pause slightly, "What's the fastest way to open this door? Force it open or find the key?"
Bronya quickly snapped back to reality, her fingers flying across the virtual control interface: "Bronya tried to crack the access control—but Cocolia's mother has the highest privileges; she's blocked all the regular entrances."
"Heavy Bunny's particle cannon can attempt to break the door lock structure, but it will take time and will trigger the internal defense system—"
"Time? Defense system?" Chen Feng raised an eyebrow, a confident smile playing on his lips. "These kinds of problems don't exist for me."
Before he finished speaking, he raised his right hand, fingers spread, towards the heavy alloy door.
He suddenly pushed his loosely clenched hand forward!
"open!"
Om-!
A beam of dark golden light, refined to its utmost, shot out from his palm. It was not a violent act of destruction, but rather carried a will to "reshape." The beam instantly entered the alloy gate.
The next moment, something happened that left everyone speechless.
The alloy door, strong enough to withstand heavy artillery fire, melted and disintegrated silently the moment it came into contact with the golden beam of light, just like ice and snow thrown into the blazing sun!
There was no explosion, no flying debris. The sturdy metal structure seemed to be instantly disintegrated by the most precise molecular decomposition technology, turning into countless tiny golden specks of light that drifted in the air and eventually disappeared completely.
A huge, circular passageway with faint golden light flowing around its edges suddenly appeared before them! Behind the passageway was the base corridor, brightly lit but filled with a tense atmosphere.
Bronya's pupils contracted sharply, and the sensors on Heavy Bunny went into overdrive, indicating an incomprehensible high-energy reaction. Her gaze towards Chen Feng was filled with unprecedented shock.
"Done." Chen Feng withdrew his hand as if he had only done a trivial matter, and patted off non-existent dust.
"The passage is open, and the defense system should be temporarily disabled by the energy disturbance just now. Let's go have a good talk with that Cocolia mom."
Kiana gripped her twin pistols tightly and followed closely behind: "You wicked woman, here I come!"
Bronya took a deep breath, controlling her Heavy Bunny to follow, her eyes filled with unwavering determination.
Piggy Hero and Gaia exchanged a glance and stepped into the passage without hesitation.
Deep within the base, in the command center.
The monitor screen in front of Cocolia turned into blinding static the moment Chen Feng raised his hand. The last image transmitted was of the alloy door vanishing like a phantom.
"Bang!"
The metal control panel in front of her was dented by the impact.
"Damn it! Who is that person?! Bronya—you traitor!"
Cocolia's face was terribly grim, her eyes burning with anger and a hint of fear—a fear she herself was unwilling to admit.
The fact that the gate was breached in such a bizarre way meant that her carefully laid defenses were rendered useless in the eyes of the enemy.
She slammed down the communicator, her voice icy and chilling: "All units, attention! Highest level intrusion alert! Target: Command Center! Activate Anti-Entropy Mech Prototype Zero! Annihilate all intruders at all costs! Repeat, at all costs!"
Cold, mechanical synthesized voices echoed throughout the base, while piercing alarm lights flashed wildly red.
Deep within the passageway leading to the command center, heavy footsteps echoed, making the ground tremble, along with the deep hum characteristic of a massive energy core activating.
