Chapter 1074: Please Wait Patiently
Chapter 1074: Please Wait Patiently
See, it was one of the things they deemed especially important.
The people of House Kyros couldn’t possibly keep all the beasts underground any longer than necessary unless they were perfectly fine with Tortie eventually getting rid of all of them after being forced to stay down there himself just to maintain temporary peace and order.
Not exactly the best way to go, right?
Moreover, if it was anything like the upgrade to Dungeon Level 3, then they shouldn’t have to worry about a gate suddenly falling from the sky.
Then again, Luca might’ve underestimated people’s curiosity toward such a gate after forgetting that the entrance to the dungeon-linked space—which these people saw almost every day at the Kyros Manor—looked rather similar to the one that had just materialized.
If it had been them, who by now were overly familiar with the truly imposing gate, they might’ve ended up oddly excited by it instead.
Well, at least that probably meant they’d had a good experience with dungeon gates.
That, too, was true, because even now, just as the best Young Lord in the Empire forked over CP for the prompt that had earlier been relegated to the background, all they were witnessing were miracle after miracle.
[PURCHASE DUNGEON-LINKED SPACE UPGRADE?]
[COST: 1,000,000 CP.]
[YES] [NO]
This time Luca was fine.
This was an expense that would go a long way, as it would allow the efficiency of the Dungeon-linked space to be boosted to 60%.
Moreover, it allowed them to verify D-29’s condition.
No more of that insane [YES] and [YES] choice. This time, he was at least able to purchase the upgrades with the false illusion of having options, even if Luca knew full well that choosing [NO] had never really been something he would do.
As such, when a familiar prompt came up for the Dungeon-linked space, Luca didn’t even hyperventilate as he thought that at least, the beasts would benefit from the new upgrade.
[PURCHASE AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM UPDATE?]
[COST: 200,000 CP]
[YES] [NO]
It wasn’t quite the same kind of upgrade they had just witnessed happen to the Main Dungeon, but as the familiar massive lake—and what was likely an attached estuary—began taking shape, the people watching could only stare in awe.
For most of them, it was also their first time witnessing land move on such a scale.
And despite the fact that the beasts were clearly terrified by the violent shaking, Luca’s people still found themselves overwhelmed by a different kind of shock altogether. A pleasant one.
There were definitely tears shed for the Empire’s most wonderful heir, and Luca could only shyly accept everyone’s gratitude despite feeling like he hadn’t really done enough to deserve it when, from his perspective, all he had truly done was click [YES].
Then, as expected, the Energy Stabilizers were also needed and safely established.
Finally, a task accomplished just as expected!
The shaking and humming finally ceased, and only then did the golden-eyed cadet confirm that everyone could begin heading back out and releasing the anxious beasts.
In the meantime, Luca—who somehow felt like he’d gone through a tremendous ordeal despite having spent the day mostly standing guard and pressing prompts—finally managed to return to where the others were.

"Son, did you finish with the things you were planning to do for the dungeon-linked space?" asked Duke Leander, who hurried to his child after sensing his return.
"Ah, yes, Papa! Some of them were asking where all of you went, so I simply said you were all occupied because of upgrades."
And in a sense, that was true, so it wasn’t like Luca was lying. But at the same time, he also couldn’t exactly announce the sudden appearance of this suspicious gate for the sake of everyone’s sanity.
Hopefully, they’d figure something out after this...
After deciding to postpone the remaining CP-heavy upgrades pertaining to the main dungeon, the young dungeon owner once again addressed the little system.
"D-29," he asked gently, "would you be comfortable initiating the firmware update now?"
"Yes, Host!" the system chirped immediately. It had been somewhat melancholic after failing to be of more use earlier, but thankfully managed to recover a bit of its dignity after receiving praise inside the dungeon-linked space.
"I believe conditions are stable enough now."
However, as a rather honest system (ahem), it also couldn’t exactly lie. As such, its tone weakened slightly while explaining its current dilemma.
"My only concern is that I still can’t determine how long the update process will actually take... Would it really be alright if I’m unavailable for a while?"
"It’s alright," Luca reassured sincerely. "And besides, hasn’t being upgraded always been your goal?"
"Yes, but—"
"Then you really shouldn’t worry too much," Luca interrupted softly. "There are many of us here. You should update without worrying."
There was a pause as the little system whirred as if contemplating.
"Well then, if you say so, Host!" D-29 responded at once, clearly determined to guarantee maximum swiftness and efficiency. "I shall return as soon as possible!"
"And in the meantime," it added proudly, "I’ve already informed Sid about the necessary procedures while I’m unavailable."
"Sid?" Luca repeated.
"Yes, Host! He may be slightly rusty and excessively naggy, but he should still be capable of handling D-64 as well."
The little system sounded increasingly passionate as it continued.
"Even the entertainment schedules have already been properly organized, and he has been informed regarding the exact frequency required for rechecking account balances with you—"
"I already know what to do, so you can just go with the update."
That was definitely Sid, interjecting like his existence was on the line.
The listeners exchanged looks with one another.
Because somehow...
This entire account sounded suspiciously like an old married couple reluctantly preparing to spend time apart.
"Oh..." Luca blinked before smiling warmly. "I see. Then that’s great. We’ll rely on Sid while you finish updating."
"And don’t worry," he added reassuringly, "last time everything turned out fine."
Honestly, the updates usually did not take very long.
But perhaps Luca should never have said that out loud.
Because somehow, those words seemed to jinx every single one of them.
In the end, the increasingly worried group only managed to hear from D-29 again after a grueling three days.
